To Our Washington Twp. Wrestling Family,

As we all know, wrestling is a sport that demands quite a bit of strong character traits. Our “little boys” will face many obstacles that most children in sports will not. In addition to learning hard-work, dedication and determination they will learn most of all HUMILITY. These are all aspects that will help our boys become successful leaders later in life as they move on to high school and college and then to become effective employees/employers and hopefully parents someday.

I know some may be reading this and thinking, “How does a 5 year old learn humility?”. The one thing about this great sport that is unique to any other, losing teaches more than a win ever will. Each wrestler must go out and face each match, not as a team, but an individual who has no one to rely on but himself.

Not many children can face even a small amount of failure or criticism let alone face the truth, that today, they just weren’t good enough. We train by the motto, “If you get knocked down 9 times, get up 10”. Our boys never quit or give-up even when it may be the easy thing to do. That is what makes these young men great.

I would like to take this opportunity to speak about our upcoming Tournament. Tragically 12 ½ years ago we lost a man of such character. He knew what hard-work, dedication and determination was. His love for this sport made him a successful high school and college wrestler. This also translated to a career dedicated to public safety as a Glassboro Police Officer. That is why we have named our Tournament THE JIMMIE FISLER MEMORIAL. When Jimmie passed our organization was “knocked down” …..but as we always say and have always done “we got back up”.

So as you start to see e-mails come in asking for donations, participation and volunteering, remember we need your help. Our organization is only as strong as the parents that support it. Remember how lucky we are to be able to carry on the name and spirit of Jimmie Fisler. Remember we are a family….
